THE CULTURE AND CUSTOM OF THE BANJAR COMMUNITY OF BAGAN SERAI, PERAK BAPUKUNG OR PUKONG (LULLABY A BABY)

Bapukung means the action of putting a baby to sleep or to lullaby a baby in a cradle while sitting down. The baby whole body is wrapped in a piece of cloth with its end tied with a string called ijuk. In the ceremony the mother sings songs, among them is as follows:

Sleep my baby, sleep
Sleep wrapped in a piece of cloth
Ooo how lucky is my baby
Life is blessed and death too.

If the baby refuses to sleep then the mother says:

Hish! Lizard! Dont disturb my baby for he is already asleep.
