Asam Rom, the traditional food of the Malay community in the district of Jerantut, Pahang, is made of the flesh of the rubber seed that has undergone various processes before made into food. The flesh is sundried for three to seven days before it is pounded coarsely.
The asam food can be cooked with fish or vegetable, like the water spinach. If mixed with this vegetable the dish looks like Water Spinach in Black Salted Beans (known as taucu). If cooked with fish then the dish is known as Gulai Asam Rong (Asam Rong Dish), of which the method of cooking is the same as other dishes but mixed with a little of the asam.
