DABAI FRUIT

The Dabai fruit, with its scientific name Canarium Odontophyllum, resembles the date fruit, and is abundant in the Sibu, Kapit and Sarikei Divisions. The fruit is white when raw but turns to blackish when ripe. It has to be soaked in warm water first before eaten to soften its hard flesh. Dabai can be eaten with salt, soy sauce and chilies as enhancers.
